Worst meal I ever had.

Hey Guys,

If there’s a thing you need to know about me, I love food.

I really love food, there’s no denying for it. I’m a Cantonese, maybe it’s because of my heritage or it’s in my blood, but I’m very particular of my food.

As Doctor Leslie Tay from iEAt.iShoot.iPost would say,” Never waste your calories on yucky food!

Everyone and anyone has a fixed amount of calories daily, or you could ignore it and get fat (#Truth). So, don’t ever waste your so ever little calories on yucky food!
I am always judging the food before me, as though I’m some sort of award winning food critics. (Fun fact: I can taste and identify all the ingredients used.) Since I’m poor, I’ll eat just about anything and everything, just not enjoying it that much.

I still have this vivid memory till this day. I was having dinner at my auntie’s house and I was eating alone because I couldn’t wait for others. (I was an obese kid.) Then my auntie came over and shared this (I consider it wisdom),” When eating alone, even the best delicacies tastes bad.” I thought she was spouting nonsense since the obese kid me thinks that food is food, the only thing that affects the taste is the person cooking it.

However, over the years, I finally understood what she said that day. Since my family members have to work at irregular hours, we seldom have meals together nowadays. In all honesty, sometimes I would skipped meals just because I can’t bear the fact of eating alone, those meals becomes tasteless.

I thought that having meals alone was bad enough, but a while ago, I just had the worst meal ever.

As you get older, you will realize that the cooking is not the only thing affecting the taste of food, the people you eat with matters too.
That very meal that I had, I could not even finish the food, I felt like I was chocking with each bite. That plate of rice felt like ice cold sands, the fish turned tasteless and the vegetables, disgusting.

In all honesty, the food itself were not to blame, it was who I was eating with.

Growing up, getting left out always impacted me negatively the most. I hate that feeling, I hate it so much. Getting left out during that very meal time, I lost all appetite. Every time I lift that spoon and into my mouth, it felt as though it was impossible to swallow.

That pain felt unbearable, it felt like something inside me was broken. I felt tormented by all those negative feelings, I became very quiet. Even so, I had to fake that smile to pretend it was okie. I have to pretend everything was okie after that meal. It felt horrible.

Sometimes, it’s not the food that tastes bad, it’s when and who we eat with that makes that food tastes bad.

And that was the worst meal I ever had.

So till next time, stay awesome and rock on.

Orientation day.

Hey Guys,

I am back! Most importantly, guess what? I am no longer a freshman in my Polytechnic life! Starting April, I’m going to be a Year 2 student! (Although it sounds cool, I think that the modules are going to be a whole lot tougher. T.T)

Concurrently in April, there’ll be new Poly students, a.k.a Freshie.

I still remember the time when I was waiting for the first day of school, or freshman orientation program (FOP). I was sort of excited yet worried? I didn’t know what to wear, who I was going to meet and will I get lost?

After one year of poly life, I think I can impart some wisdom to those that are enrolling to poly this April. Let’s go!

To do:

1.        On the first day of school, don’t be late. In fact, be there early!
You can be late any other time of the day (That’s your business, haha), the reason to be there early is so that you can mingle around those that are already there. Introduce yourself, shake some hands, and talk about how Flappy Bird sucks!

2.            What you dress matters!
Again, you can wear whatever you want any other time of the day, just not that day.

                Don’t underdress.

                Don’t overdress.

3.            Bath and style your hair if you need to!
In all honesty, do we really need to go through this?

4.            Remember your classmates’ names.
I understand that sometimes Chinese names can kind of tricky to remember, but just   try to remember as many names as you can. It’ll go a long way for your first day of school.

5.        App store vs. Google play store.
Nowadays, if you don’t have a smartphone, I think that’s sort of admirable? I mean, even my parents have smartphones. However, most likely you have a smartphone. Try typing the name of your polytechnic in the search bar.

Most likely, there’s going to be an app made by the poly. Those apps are really useful regardless of which year you’re in. They might have a map of your campus, timetable and other useful tips. I’m just basing it on Singapore Polytechnic (SP Pride!).

To never do:

1.            Be a creep.
Please never ever behave like a creep, stay cool ~

2.            Stare into your phone throughout the day.
Keep your iPhone or Samsung note in your bag or pockets. Don’t be anti-social.                          There’s life outside your 15 inch screen.

3.            Tell weird stories about yourself.
Sure, everyone has their own weird stories or stories they shouldn't tell. IT’S COMPLETELY FINE! The thing is, it is unnecessary for others learn about it. Keep it to yourself, maybe after knowing each other better, you can share with them.

4.            Act like a jerk.
What do I mean by jerk? When you pretty much care more about yourself than others. Take some time and hear what others have to say, let others have the spotlight sometime.

All in all, be it Polytechnic or JC, MI or ITE, what matters the most in all orientation programs is that you be enthusiastic about it, mix around and be positive!

So till next time, stay awesome and rock on!
